About Horace Luong

Horace was born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He completed a B.Sc. (Honours) at Dalhousie University in 2003 and a Ph.D. at the University of Victoria in 2008. During nearly five years of graduate studies under the supervision of Professor Tom Fyles, he conducted research in the area of solid-phase synthesized ion channels. Following the completion of his doctoral studies, he worked with Professor Cornelia Bohne at the University of Victoria as a post-doctoral fellow before relocating to the University of Manitoba in 2008.

At the University of Manitoba, Horace served as an instructor in the Department of Chemistry and later attained the rank of Senior Instructor. His primary responsibilities centered on the development and delivery of the undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory program. He subsequently assumed an academic leadership role as Associate Head (Undergraduate), where he led curriculum and program development initiatives and served as the disciplinary authority for undergraduate academic misconduct cases.

As Associate Dean (Student Experience) in the Faculty of Science, Horace Luong provided leadership and oversight for a broad range of undergraduate student affairs and student-support initiatives. His responsibilities included overseeing matters related to student standing, academic integrity, grade appeals, and student discipline. He also oversaw programs related to undergraduate scholarships, bursaries, and awards, supported accessibility accommodations for students, and worked to enhance the overall student experience within the Faculty of Science. In addition, he led efforts in undergraduate student recruitment, science outreach, and international study and exchange opportunities, helping to create pathways for student engagement, success, and global learning.
